Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher have hailed Jurgen Klopp following Liverpool’s Carabao Cup final success.

Klopp secured the first trophy of his final season as Liverpool manager, with Virgil van Dijk scoring in extra-time in a 1-0 win over Chelsea

Neville described Klopp as a ‘special manager’ and one of the best in Premier League history.

Liverpool finished the game with a host of young players on the pitch, with Neville saying that Klopp makes a ‘bantamweight team punch like a heavyweight’.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Neville said: ‘Special managers do special things and he is one of the best that the Premier League has ever seen. A monster manager who has a middleweight squad, a bantamweight team out there but punches like a heavyweight. It’s because of him.’

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher stated that Klopp is determined to go out with a bang after announcing that he will leave the club at the end of the campaign.

Carragher said: ‘What a win! Absolutely huge. Jurgen Klopp wants to go out with a bang and they’ve made the best possible start. They hung on. The spirit of the club, the young players, everyone coming together.

‘That support behind the goal and that man (Van Dijk). When we look back at the Jurgen Klopp era he is right at the forefront. Yes we’ll talk about Klopp’s kids but that was a colossal performance from that man at both ends of the pitch.’

Youngster Conor Bradley started the game, with fellow prospects Bobby Clark, Jarell Quansah, James McConnell and Jayden Danns all coming on.

After winning the Carabao Cup, Liverpool will be aiming for further glory before Klopp departs.

Liverpool are currently top of the Premier League, while they are through to the fifth round of the FA Cup and are in the round of 16 in the Europa League.
