England’s Georgia Stanway poked fun at her new Bayern Munich team-mates by choosing to sing ‘Sweet Caroline’ as her initiation song after joining from WSL team Manchester City.
Stanway’s hilarious initiation serenade comes less than two weeks after beating seven of her new team members to lift the Euro 2022 trophy, with Neil Diamond’s classic chorusing around a jubilant Wembley long after the final whistle.
The England hero joins the Bavarian side after seven years with City following a historic summer with the Lionesses, having scored the crucial extra-time winner against Spain to send them on their way to European glory.

The video was posted on Bayern’s Twitter account, captioned: ‘New #FCBayern players have to sing, so Georgia Stanway picked Sweet Caroline… that’s brave.’
And the 23-year-old midfielder’s joke was well received by her new team-mates, who laughed and clapped along to encourage their new arrival, who reached an agreement with the Frauen-Bundesliga outfit in May.

Sweet Caroline has become a song synonymous with the England football teams in recent years, and was a fan favourite during both the men’s and women’s Euro campaigns in 2021 and 2022 respectively.
Stanway was given a 8/10 rating by Sportsmail for her performance in Wembley’s showpiece final on Sunday, July 31, after her impressive efforts saw her replaced late in the 88th minute by Jill Scott.
The England hero will now likely line-up alongside Germany’s goal-scorer in the final Lina Magull, who’s equaliser was ultimately outdone by Chloe Kelly’s stunning 110th minute winner.
During her time in Manchester Stanway won the 2016 WSL, as well as three FA Cups and three League Cups in a seven-season spell.
She now joins Bayern who are one half of a duopoly holding sway over the Frauen-Bundesliga with reigning champions Wolfsburg having snatched the title back from the Bavarians.
Bayern have won the competition three times, including back-to-back championships between 2014 and 2016, and will hope the acquisition of one of England’s leading midfielders can help them to further successes.
