COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND-UP: Jimmy Anderson claims 54th first-class five-wicket haul and Keaton Jennings hits century as Lancashire stay in the hunt – while captain James Vince hits 186 to help Hampshire take control

Jimmy Anderson warmed up for England’s Test summer with his 54th first-class five-for as Lancashire stayed in the hunt in their championship match against Somerset at Taunton.

While five team-mates managed five for 352 between them, Anderson picked up five for 76, before Lancashire captain and opener Keaton Jennings hit an unbeaten 124 to lead his side to 302 for one from just 59 overs in reply to Somerset’s 441.

At Lord’s, Ben Duckett extended his overnight 119 into 177 from 258 balls as Nottinghamshire were bowled out for 364 by Middlesex, who closed on 111 for two after Stuart Broad trapped Pieter Malan lbw for 26 with the last ball of the day.

And there was a big hundred from Hampshire captain James Vince, who made 186 as his team took control at Wantage Road. At stumps on the second day, Northamptonshire had staggered to 95 for five.

Tom Westley, another former England Test player, was in sparkling form for Essex against Kent during a rain-affected game at Canterbury.

He reached 138 not out from only 177 deliveries, and added 246 for the second wicket with opener Nick Browne, who was unbeaten on 105.

In Division Two, Pakistan Test batter Saud Shakeel fell for just three in his first innings for Yorkshire, against Sussex. 

Later, England Test seamer Ollie Robinson took his first wicket of the summer, bowling George Hill as Yorkshire stumbled in reply to 361.
