Newcastle are reportedly considering making a move to sign Sporting Lisbon defender Ousmane Diomande.

The Magpies have been hit by a host of injuries over the first few months of the season and Eddie Howe will need to reinforce in the January transfer window.

And The Sun claim 19-year-old centre-back Diomande has moved towards the top of their list of targets. 

The report adds that Newcastle have sent scouts to watch the player on at least three separate occasions. 

Diomande, regarded as one of the best African prospects playing in Europe, has a release clause of £70m.

The Ivorian’s current contract runs up until 2027 but is is believed that he would be interested in a move to the Premier League.

Arsenal are also interested the player and there were reports that the gunners had a bid rejected in the summer.

Diomande has featured in 16 games this season, contributing two goals and an assist alongside his impressive work at the back.
