Succession star Brian Cox’s wife Nicole Ansari-Cox takes a stand for women’s rights in Iran with Woman Life Freedom sash at Vogue World event

Succession star Brian Cox’s wife Nicole Ansari-Cox took a stand for women’s rights in Iran with a Woman Life Freedom sash at Vogue World: London 2023 at The Theatre Royal Drury Lane on Thursday night.

Nicole, who is half-Iranian and 23 years Brian’s junior, wore a ‘woman life freedom’ sash to the event.

The slogan arose from protests in Iran over the death of Mahsa Jina Amini, 22, in police custody following her arrest for wearing her hijab ‘improperly’.

The actress and director told CNN in August: ‘There has not been enough support worldwide for this movement and I think it’s not just in Iran, but there’s a gender apartheid that is worldwide going hand-in-hand with the fascist regime coming up everywhere, including in Europe.’

Saturday will be the one-year anniversary of Mahsa’s death.

More than a runway show, Vogue World showcases the best of a country’s fashion and culture. It made its debut in New York last year and is now in London featuring the likes of Cara Delevigne and Kate Moss.

The first Vogue World event featured a fashion show and street fair when it took place in New York’s meatpacking district in 2021.

Serena Williams featured, as did 112 models who stormed the stage to Madonna’s Vogue.

For London’s turn, Cara performed dressed as a punk and kissed singer FKA Twigs, and Kate Moss did a ‘bizarre’ interpretive dance.

The show, which kicked off London Fashion Week was open to all, with proceeds from the tickets, which ranged from £170 to £2500, going to performing arts organisations.

Masterminded by BAFTA and Olivier-winning director Stephen Daldry, show director Emily Burns, and creative producer Fran Miller, along with the Vogue team, the evening featured a vast array of performing arts.

The bash comes just three months after the shock announcement the British-Ghanaian former model and fashion stylist is to step down as editor-in-chief of British Vogue after six years at the helm.

When he leaves at the beginning of 2024, Enninful will take up a ‘global advisory position’ at Vogue, ‘with the freedom to take on broader creative projects’.
