A huge swarm of sugar-crazed wasps could sweep across Britain by the end of the summer, experts are warning.
The ongoing scorching heatwave is creating ideal breeding conditions for the insects.
Their numbers can fluctuate between years as the weather often dictates their survival through the spring.
Given the soaring temperatures and increase in insect populations as a result, 2022 is already being dubbed ‘the year of the wasp’, by expert bug exterminators.

The ongoing scorching heatwave is creating ideal breeding conditions for the insects
They are becoming more sugar-crazed during the later months as their larva grow into full sized wasps and they need to find a new energy source.
As a result, Brits are being warned to avoid sweet products where possible such as fizzy drinks and ice lollies to stop attracting them.
Sebastien Pommereul, manager of Stop wasps – Stop pests, told BMFTV: ‘This year, we are doing between 10 to 12 interventions a day. Last year, we were at five.’
Other tips to prevent wasp stings including avoiding swatting them away, as that just tends to rile up the insects more.
If stung, the stinger must be removed immediately, but not by using tweezers as this can cause the venom to spread.
After this, the affected area should be washed with soap and water and ice should be applied to reduce swelling.
