- Mail Sport fought off fierce competition to claim the top prize at the SJAs
- Charlotte Daly and Nik Simon were among the Mail Sport writers to triumph
It was a momentous evening for Mail Sport at the Sports Journalists’ Association awards — the industry’s Oscars — on Monday night as we claimed the marquee award for Sports Newspaper of the Year, and were recognised in several other categories.
Mail Sport fought off fierce competition to claim the biggest gong of the night. Rugby writer Nik Simon picked up the Rugby Journalist of the Year award and Charlotte Daly triumphed in the Social Media Journalist of the Year category.
Simon was praised for his ‘game-changing’ articles exposing racism in the sport. The awards also honoured Mail Sport’s outstanding and much-loved tennis writer Mike Dickson, who sadly passed away in January, by naming the specialist correspondent award in his memory.
Mail Sport columnist Nasser Hussain won the Commentator of the Year award for his work on Sky Sports, while fellow columnist Simon Jordan — one half of talkSPORT’s White & Jordan — claimed gold for Audio Show of the Year.
