Jerry Hall and media mogul Rupert Murdoch have sensationally finalised their divorce… just five weeks after the split became public.
The 65-year-old former supermodel sparked a mystery when it emerged on Wednesday that she had asked the Los Angeles Superior Court to cancel the divorce petition.
The notice was filed by Miss Hall’s California lawyer Ronald Brot and was dated Tuesday, August 9. The document said the divorce should be dismissed without prejudice, meaning that it could not be revived.
Hours after news of the development broke, it emerged Miss Hall and Mr Murdoch have settled their break-up agreement and ‘remain good friends’.
Hall will receive a ‘generous’ slice of Rupert Murdoch‘s £14billion fortune and have her VIP lifestyle bankrolled in perpetuity should they divorce as the 91-year-old media mogul threw himself back into work, it was revealed today.
Last night a spokesman for Mr Murdoch released a statement on behalf of the former couple.
In an email, the spokesman described it as a ‘joint statement from Robert S. Cohen, attorney for Rupert Murdoch, and Judy Poller, attorney for Jerry Hall’.
The statement read: ‘Jerry Hall and Rupert Murdoch have finalized their divorce. They remain good friends and wish each other the best for the future’.

The couple had been together for six years when their split was reported in June. Last weekend, a newspaper claimed that the 91-year-old media tycoon ended their marriage via an email which Miss Hall, 66, is said to have received while waiting for him to arrive in the UK.
Miss Hall responded by filing for divorce on July 1 in Los Angeles rather than the UK, where they were married.
Her next move was even more aggressive and she hired a former Met Police anti-terrorism officer to serve Mr Murdoch the divorce papers at RAF Brize Norton on July 4, after he attended his granddaughter’s wedding nearby.
In her original petition, she said she did not have his full financial information and was seeking it.

The filing of the divorce in California is significant as it is a community property state, meaning that any property acquired during the marriage is by default split 50/50.
The couple bought a multi-million-pound doer-upper in the Cotswolds as one of their new homes. The sprawling pad in Great Tew had been uninhabitable for many years and the extensive renovation included installing a domed roof.
Mr Murdoch had 30 days to respond to the petition, a date which had passed by the time Miss Hall filed her request for dismissal.
Over the weekend, legal experts had urged Mr Murdoch to settle the divorce.
Mark Stephens, with London-based law firm Howard Kennedy, said: ‘This is a case that doesn’t need to be litigated. The smart thing is don’t line the pages of newspapers, just get on and settle the case.’
Fourth time divorce for him – but a first for her
Before marrying Jerry Hall, Rupert Murdoch had already been through three divorces, the first being to the late Patricia Booker.
For Miss Hall, the reported divorce would be a first for, although she shared a decades-long relationship with Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger, the pair were never legally married.
Mr Murdoch married Miss Booker in 1956 and they divorced in 1967. Their daughter Prudence worked for her father’s News of the World tabloid newspaper. Later in 1967, Mr Murdoch married Scottish journalist Anna Torv. This would be his longest marriage and they had three children: Elisabeth, Lachlan – his chosen heir – and James.
The couple divorced in 1999.

Mr Murdoch married Wendi Deng, 38 years his junior, 17 days after his billion-dollar divorce to Anna was finalised. Miss Deng worked for Star TV, one of Mr Murdoch’s companies at the time.
They were married for 14 years and had two children together.
They divorced after an audit of Miss Deng’s email account uncovered memos to herself about Tony Blair’s ‘good body’ and ‘really, really good legs butt [sic]’. She denied accusations that she had become close to the former prime minister.
Before marrying Mr Murdoch, Miss Hall had four children with Sir Mick. The pair reached a financial settlement after 22 years together in 1999.
Miss Hall reportedly ended things after Sir Mick had a child with Brazilian model Luciana Gimenez, but the former couple remain close friends.
Before Sir Mick, Miss Hall’s partners included Roxy Music frontman Bryan Ferry.
